「未來」就是突破現狀 對於「博物館」這樣相對歷史悠久的「產業」而言，美國博物館協會相當與時俱進，論起制度、服務或溝通，連會員都感到滿意。博協在2009年創立The Spark策略規劃，目的就是驅策協會隨時檢視自己的行政和業務是否符合時代需求，例如博物館認證制度的改善。在受到經濟衝擊的近兩年，博物館吃力經營的處境雪上加霜，但是論起產業的未來，博協決定重新審視最原始的服務目的，也就是大眾的知識傳遞，因此今年是第一次在年會的結合社區義工計畫，讓專業人士在休士頓留下服務的足跡。重新正視使用者的聲音，因此第一次在年會舉辦數場公開議程，開放邀請市民參與表達心聲。
